Juvenile Garibaldi

Garibaldi
Hypsyspops rubicundus

A juvenile Garibaldi displays its
brilliant blue markings.  As it gets older,
the blue will fade, and eventually disappear.

Garibaldi can live up to 13 years,
and reach 17 inches in length.

This photo was taken in August
off the middle islands at the Coronados,
a group of islands about 18 miles south of San Diego.
We were treated to hundreds of these
little two-inch beauties.
