Reg Gorgonian with Brittle Stars
Reg Gorgonian with Spiny Brittle Stars
Lophogorgia chilensis/Opiothrix spiculata

In the deep waters off Santa Barbara Island,
a crowd of spiny brittle stars covers a red gorgonian.

These colorful sea stars come in a variety of hues,
ranging from yellows to oranges to blues.
In some locations, they become so profuse that they
literally carpet the ocean floor.
